Small Booster Groups for Children

Confidence‑first support for Primary and Secondary age children.
Small, steady groups.

Kind, expert tutors.

Calm, focused lessons that help children believe, “I can do this.”
Our online booster groups bring together a small number of children working at a similar stage, so they can learn alongside others, ask questions freely, and build confidence one step at a time.

Sessions are fun but focused, with plenty of “quick wins” and a short update for parents after each lesson.

We run term-time booster groups across primary, Key Stage 3 and GCSE, in subjects such as English, maths, science and creative writing.

You can choose small-group tuition on its own, or combine it with occasional 1:1 sessions for extra personalised support.

Why Small-Group Booster Tuition?

At Tutoring with Portia, small groups are one of our most popular ways to learn – and it’s easy to see why.

Supportive, Interactive Setting

Children learn with a handful of peers, so they can hear different explanations, talk through ideas, and realise they’re not the only one who finds certain things tricky.

Confidence First

Shyer children often feel more comfortable asking a question in a small, familiar group than in a busy classroom. Over time, they start to participate more and believe in their own ability.

Motivating and Engaging

Working alongside others helps children stay engaged, celebrate each other’s progress, and feel proud of the effort they’re putting in. We use interactive activities, games and discussion to keep lessons lively and focused.

Cost-Effective

Small-group tuition offers a more affordable way to access experienced tutors, while still giving your child plenty of individual attention and tailored support.

Flexible “best of both” support

Many families choose a blend of group sessions and occasional 1:1 lessons – using group time to build confidence and skills, and 1:1 time to zoom in on specific gaps.

Who's It For?

Need a confidence boost – perhaps they’ve started to say “I’m just no good at this” or avoid certain subjects altogether.
Feel lost in a busy classroom – they might be too nervous to put their hand up, or they need a bit more time and repetition than school can always provide.
Would enjoy learning with others – they like the idea of seeing the same friendly faces each week, knowing everyone is there for the same reason.
