There is lots of information available below, but if you can't find the answer you need, just send me a message and I will get back to you as soon as possible!

You will have received an email asking you to set your password and confirm our terms and conditions. Please follow the instructions to set up your account.

Please complete your profile with your address and telephone number.

You will be able to log in to your account to view your lessons booked, access lesson links, read lesson reports and make payments.

The First Lesson

Your Tutor Match

After initially chatting to Portia, she will match your child with their tutor.

You can find out more about your child's tutor by finding their profile on our Tutors page.

Making the Most of Lessons

Timing - join the lesson 5 minutes early in case you come across any technical difficulties.

Equipment - have a pen and paper ready for all lessons. Scientific calculators will be needed for secondary maths and science lessons.

Find a quiet space - students must be able to concentrate during their lessons and therefore we suggest they find a quiet space away from any distractions.

Adults - we ask an adult to be somewhere in the house, but we’d love you to encourage your child's independence. We find that students work better when their parents don’t get involved in the session.

Lesson Content

Initial 1:1 Assessment

Unless you have requested a specific topic, the first 1:1 lesson will be an initial assessment.

Your child's tutor will work through a range of topics with them so that they can get to know their ability and make a plan for future lessons.

After this, all lessons will be tailored specifically to your child's individual needs.

Topic Requests

We welcome topic requests if your child would like to work on something specific. This may be something they have recently struggled with in school, a target they have been given by their school teacher, or an area that they may lack confidence in.

We request 48 hours' notice if you would like your child to cover a particular topic in their next lesson. This allows our tutors to plan and prepare for the next lesson appropriately.

If you have a topic request, please contact your child's tutor using the WhatsApp group.

Communication

Contacting your Child's Tutor

Portia will set up a WhatsApp group between the parents and the child's tutor.

You can then contact your child's tutor using this group.

Please keep all communications within this group to ensure that lessons are scheduled accurately and that you are invoiced correctly.

Lesson Reports

After a lesson has been completed, you may be emailed a lesson report. This report will detail what has recently been covered and any comments your child's tutor has about their progress.

Lesson reports may not be sent every week, but when the tutor would like to update you on what is being covered.

Lesson reports can also be accessed when you log in to your account.

When signing up to our tuition services, you will have agreed to our Terms and Conditions.

By accessing or using our online tuition services, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to these Terms, and you represent that you are of legal age to enter into a binding contract.

Any changes or modifications to these terms and conditions are not valid unless they are officially approved in writing by Tutoring with Portia.

Our Year 5 and 6 Maths Confidence Booster Group kicked off on Monday with an amazing start! 🎉

We explored place value up to millions, practiced writing numbers in digits, and worked on recognising the place value of each digit. Plus, we refreshed some key times tables, especially the ones that might have been forgotten over the long summer break.

The Autumn term always begins with place value in school, so this was the perfect confidence-boosting session ahead of their school learning later in the week! 💡

Our goal for this group is to build confidence without pressure, ensuring your child enjoys learning and feels prepared for the year ahead! 💪📚

The first week of secondary school is such an exciting and nerve-wracking time for your child AND YOU!

As they move up from primary school, this new chapter is filled with anticipation, curiosity, and perhaps a few jitters. As parents, you want to ensure they are well-prepared, confident, and ready to thrive in their new environment.

We understand that this change can feel like a big leap, so here are some helpful tips to support your child during these first few weeks:

👉 Establish a Routine Early
Encourage your child to pack their bag, lay out their uniform, and review their timetable the night before to stay organised and in control.

👉 Encourage Open Communication
Regularly check in to see how they’re managing new challenges like friendships and homework. Reassure them it’s normal to feel overwhelmed, and you’re there to help.

👉 Help Them Stay Organised
A wall planner or colour-coded timetable can make keeping track of subjects and homework easier, reducing stress.

👉 Promote Positive Friendships
Encourage joining clubs or activities to meet new friends with similar interests.

👉 Be Patient
Every child adjusts differently. Let them take their time to settle in.

☀️ How have you been spending your summer so far? ☀️

I feel like I’ve packed a lot into the past 3 weeks, and it has absolutely flown by! Here’s what I’ve been up to:

Caught Covid on my first week off... typical! 😷

Celebrated my Dad's 60th birthday with an epic family BBQ, camping, and LOTS of cake. 🎂🎉

Traveled North to the National Tutors Conference and met up with some of my wonderful tutor friends. 🧑‍🏫✨

Painted and decorated our bedroom and made plans for the rest of the house - it's only taken us 8 months! 🎨🏡

Been wedding shopping with my Mum and sister, getting ready for next summer. 👰💐

Enjoyed a lovely day out with friends - we painted pottery, went for a dog walk, and had pizza in the sunshine. 🎨🍕

Caught up on lots of work, emails, and attended some CPD sessions run by the TTA. However, I’ve mostly had time away from my desk, which has been very refreshing! 📝🌿

Watched A LOT of the Olympics on TV - I'm officially addicted. 🥇📺

And of course, lots of puppy walks and runs in the sunshine (and some rain too!). 🐶☔

It’s been a whirlwind of activity, but I wouldn’t have it any other way! How have you been spending your summer?
