Who We're Looking For

You could be a great fit if you are…

A qualified teacher, experienced tutor or subject specialist who is calm, reliable and genuinely enjoys helping students build confidence.

We are especially interested in tutors who can support students in Maths, English or Science from KS2 to GCSE.

✓ QTS, tutoring experience or a relevant degree in your subject

How It Works:

1.

Complete our short application form so we can learn more about your experience, subject specialism and availability.

2.

If successful at the first stage, we’ll ask you to record a short video introducing yourself. This helps us get a sense of your teaching style, experience, and personality before moving forward.

3.

You’ll be invited to an interview where you’ll also demonstrate a short lesson.

4.

We’ll carry out identification, reference, and document checks (including DBS status check).

5.

Once everything is complete, we’ll begin matching you with suitable students and support you as you get started.

6.

Grow at your pace - choose how much you work and how much you earn.

Online Education

Could you be a good fit?

  To become a tutor at Tutoring with Portia, we require you:  

You’ll need to be UK-based and self-employed

You will be working on a self-employed basis. Tutors are responsible for paying their own income tax and must be registered as self-employed. Tutoring with Portia runs as a sole trader; therefore, Portia cannot offer PAYE to tutors.

You will need to have the right to work in the UK

Tutors must be UK-based and have the right to work in the UK.

You’ll need strong subject knowledge and relevant experience

Tutors must be a qualified teacher with Qualified Teacher Status. Alternatively, you must have an undergraduate degree in your subject

You’ll need to be confident delivering online lessons

Tutors must ensure that they have the correct equipment to provide online lessons. This includes a PC/laptop, a fast internet connection, HD webcam, microphone and bright lighting.

You’ll need to be kind, reliable and patient

At Tutoring with Portia, our tutors act as positive role models to our students, becoming a positive and encouraging figure in their learning journey.

You’ll need an Enhanced DBS

Tutors must hold a current Enhanced DBS certificate (the update service is recommended). Tutors must give Portia permission to perform a DBS Status Check.
